Acupuncture FAQs
-
How Can Acupuncture Help Me?Many patients find that acupuncture provides effective relief from the pain of specific conditions such as sciatica or an injury such as whiplash. It can also be used as a form of relaxation that gives an enhanced feeling of well-being. Acupuncture aims to improve the general health of the whole person, rather than focusing solely on the condition that the patient has.

What Does It Involve? To begin a treatment of acupuncture you will first need to have a consultation to give your therapist a full picture of your health. With enough information, your therapist can draw up a tailored treatment plan that will be most appropriate for your individual needs. During treatment, needles are inserted into specially chosen acupoints and are left in place or gently manipulated for a number of minutes.
-
Does It Hurt? You may experience a tingling, warmth or sometimes a dull ache during treatment, but most people find the overriding sensation to be one of relaxation and many patients fall asleep! All of our acupuncturists are fully qualified and have many years of experience so you can rest assured that you are in good hands.
-
Is It Safe?Independent research studies have shown that adverse reactions to acupuncture occur in less than 1 in 10,000 patients. Side effects can sometimes include tiredness, mild dizziness and occasional minor bruising, but all of these reactions are short lived. Following thorough investigations, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommended that acupuncture be made available on the NHS as a safe and effective treatment for pain.
